Share your Feedback: Advisory Council for Historic Preservation Requests Public Comments on Historic Preservation Standards

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) is seeking feedback on historic preservation standards and how they work in communities, specifically regarding the application and interpretation of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (Secretary’s Standards). As the Secretary’s Standards for Rehabilitation of Historic Properties must be met for a building redevelopment project to obtain state or federal Historic Tax Credits, these standards and associated guidelines may impact the work of local Main Street programs.

Given the nexus of these policies with Main Street priorities, Main Street America is seeking to compile comments reflective of input from across the network. If you have thoughts or concerns based on your experience in development and preservation projects, we would like to hear from you!

There are Two Ways to Participate:

1. Join us for a virtual listening session on Monday, July 10 at 2pm ET to share your perspectives and hear from other Main Street members. Please review the call for comments to prepare some thoughts in advance of the meeting. Register here >

2. If you cannot attend, consider submitting your feedback to us via email before July 14. Review the call for comments and send brief bullets to advocacy@mainstreet.org

FAQ
Can I send in my own comments? Yes, anyone can submit comments directly to ACHP before July 20, 2023.

What if I am unsure if my feedback applies to the Secretary’s Standards? Preservation projects can be complicated processes. If you have concerns about the rehabilitation of buildings in your district, feel free to share with us (advocacy@mainstreet.org) and we can help determine if it is applicable to this process.
