Main Street Advocacy: Webinar Opportunity!

September 18, 2020 | Main Street Advocacy: Webinar Opportunity! |

Dear Main Street America Network,

In May, we launched an ambitious campaign to support the work of Main Street programs nationwide. The outpouring of support from across the network on this effort has been truly remarkable. In just a few months, you have reached out to your representatives; mobilized statewide and local networks; and organized calls, Zoom meetings, and in-district visits. Collectively, these actions have brought a new understanding and heightened awareness of our work to Congress and laid the foundation for Main Street to be included in future COVID relief measures.

Thank you for your incredible advocacy and outreach.

As you have likely seen in the news, the potential for any substantial congressional action on COVID relief looks increasingly less likely prior to the November elections. This was reflected by the Senate’s failure to garner enough votes to consider a slimmed-down COVID proposal last week, and the $700 billion spending difference that remains between Democratic leaders and the White House.

Unfortunately, our Main Street proposal is directly tied to the larger COVID relief package being negotiated, considered, and voted on by Congress. As you know first-hand, the continued need for relief and recovery assistance is significant – especially for small businesses struggling to survive on our nation’s Main Streets.

Despite the current impasse, we anticipate additional relief for COVID-19 will be enacted after the November elections. While the timing may be uncertain, we urge you to continue sharing the Main Street message as opportunities arise with congressional offices, including in-district and virtual meetings. It is essential that members of Congress hear directly from Main Street programs and small businesses about the ongoing effects of the pandemic.

Please join us for a webinar on Thursday, September 24 at 12pm CT to hear from our team and your Main Street colleagues on effective strategies to continue our outreach during this election season.

Thank you, again, for your continued advocacy on behalf of Main Street!
