Survey results indicate that Main Streets are continuing to build strong partnerships, garner the support of local businesses, invest in façade improvements and streetscapes, execute successful events, and engage in strategic planning. While nearly half of programs operate on a modest budget (under $99,000), almost 18 percent of programs saw both their private and public funding increase.

Challenges for Main Street programs in the year ahead include the continuous work of filling vacancies and retaining businesses, as well as sustaining funding. Expanding downtown housing is another important challenge/objective for many communities. Dealing with road construction made the list again this year, as did the perpetual issue of parking.

Thank you again for sharing your successes and obstacles with us. The challenges are real, but it’s clear that the Main Street movement is strong, and the Main Street America network is ready to face them head on!
