Coaching for Results: Your Leadership and Communication Skills

Successful Main Street programs require strong leadership and communication skills. In this session, participants will learn coaching techniques and effective and appropriate communication methods to build consensus among staff, board members, and community stakeholders. The importance of identifying a personal leadership style will be discussed and coaching tips to engage stakeholders will be shared. This session will include interactive discussion and a short exercise to help identify your approach to leadership and communication..
Amanda Melvin, Carlsbad MainStreet
In 2013, Amanda Melvin became executive director of Carlsbad MainStreet in Carlsbad, New Mexico. In addition, she is an executive coach and owns BE Accord, a professional development firm. She works was an adjunct professor in the area of leadership and gender studies and has served on the board of several nonprofits. Currently, she is an advisory board member for HealthKind, a non-profit organization that works with South Sudanese nationals living in the United States, to address immediate and long-term health needs in South Sudan. Amanda was awarded an MBA in executive leadership and a master of resource law studies from the University of Denver. She received her co-active coaches training from the Coaches Training Institute in San Rafael, California, and was awarded a completion certificate in 2005.
