Secrets of a Main Street Manager

Main Street managers have an incredible job filled with amazing opportunities and interesting challenges. The rewards are unlimited, but the potential for burnout is high. Learn how to stay positive, find your happy place, and keep your downtown moving forward. From developing relationships with downtown stakeholders to working hand-in-hand with your business owners, you will learn how to inspire others to join “Team Main Street.” On the flip side, you'll be able to identify your own strengths and weaknesses and figure out how your unique skill set can benefit your organization. The goal of this session is to help you embrace your inner downtown rock star!

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discover real-world examples of successful business retention, community relations, marketing, and merchant education.
  2. Learn to identify what you bring to the table and how you can best serve your organization
  3. Find out tricks to staying positive, creative, and sane.
  4. Get to know the importance of interacting with other managers and realizing the challenges you encounter are not unique and that solutions exist.

Kristi Trevarrow is the Executive Director of the Rochester, Michigan Downtown Development Authority (DDA). She has over 16 years of experience in downtown development and destination marketing. Serving as the Executive Director for the Rochester DDA, she executes a nationally-recognized downtown revitalization program. Her duties include business recruitment & retention, marketing, site development, community relations, fundraising and administration of the award-winning holiday event, The Big, Bright Light Show which annually attracts over one million visitors to Downtown Rochester.
Ms. Trevarrow is a columnist for Main Street Now and founder of the community revitalization blog, The Downtown Geek. Ms. Trevarrow holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Oakland University and a Master of Arts Degree from Wayne State University.
