The Leadership Development Workshop, an essential component of the Main Street America Institute, will be held April 30 – May 1 in Pittsburgh, Pa., in conjunction with the Main Street Now 2017 Conference.

An intensive two-day experience, the Leadership Development Workshop is aimed at empowering revitalization professionals with advanced tools and strategies to connect, motivate, and lead people effectively. Interactive leadership coaching and educational sessions will enrich participants’ knowledge base, strengthen their personal and interpersonal skills, and elevate their position as successful revitalization leaders. Additional networking activities will provide leaders active opportunities throughout this two-day schedule to build a strong and supporting network with other revitalization professionals from across the country.

The Details:

Day 1: Leading from Within: From Style to Strategy

This first day will focus entirely on YOU and the value of your role as a leader in the field of revitalization and community development. The workshop will consist of several interactive modules and an engaging presentation that will help you to define your strategy to lead effectively and achieve successful results. We will explore leadership styles and tools, including emotional intelligence, the most important leadership skill. Then getting very practical, we’ll explore principles of time and stress management to help you manage the fast-paced world we work in. The experiences and insights of this workshop will help you make the coming year of your leadership journey your best year yet! Lunch provided.

Instructor:

P ClasonPatricia Clason, a professional speaker for more than 35 years, is the owner and director of a learning and coaching consulting firm in Milwaukee. Patricia is the author of Claim Your Unlimited Potential, more than 50 human resource development programs, and co-author of Speaking of Success, with Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup for the Soul), Stephen Covey (Seven Habits of Highly Successful People) and Ken Blanchard (Gung Ho! and Raving Fans). Patricia works with organizations, individuals, and associations to help them skillfully create more harmonious and efficient working environments. Patricia is an instructor at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee teaching several courses, including Emotional Intelligence, Ethics, Values, and the Public Manager, Ethics and Values in the Nonprofit Sector, Controlling the Time Robbers, and Coaching for Peak Leadership Performance.

Day 2: Engaging, Empowering, and Leading People to Action

The second day of the workshop will focus on your role as an agent to lead others to action in order to achieve the vision and goals of your organization. The day will include team building exercises and tools to strengthen your ability to apply your own leadership style while recognizing the various common grounds and challenges in working with people who use different styles and have different perspectives. Interactive and motivational sessions will provide insightful strategies to enhance your efforts to empower people and maximize the value of their engagement. Snacks provided.

Instructor:

HillestadRodney (Buck) Hillestad is founder and president of Hillestad Learning Technologies, a training and development company specializing in training design and delivery, along with leadership/managerial, and team skills. Before founding Hillestad Learning Technologies in 1998, Buck accumulated over 20 years of managerial and training experience with a major construction equipment manufacturer in multiple venues including sales & marketing, manufacturing and information systems. He has designed and delivered training to hundreds of training professionals, supervisors, managers and scores of high-performance teams in a variety of industries. He currently teaches Essential Skills for Supervisors, Building a High-Performance Team, Negotiation Skills, Train the Trainer, and Return on Investment for Training

Who should participate?

This two-day in-person workshop is ideal for revitalization professionals and leaders in management positions at the local, city-wide or state level in organizations engaged in the fields of community revitalization and development.

Please note: The conference officially kicks-off with the opening plenary on Monday, May 1, at 4:00pm after the workshop has concluded.  While there are tours available for purchase as well as introductory Main Street sessions before the plenary, there should be little to no overlap between those who attend the workshop and those who would be interested in attending the introductory sessions. Cancellation Policy:

Partial (50%) refunds will be provided until Friday, April 14. If you cancel after this date, no refund will be issued. Please note: All refunds are subject to a $25 processing fee.
